FAQ Policies and clarity

Questions. Direct responses.

IPC is structured for clarity: what we evaluate, how recognition works, and how certificates are verified.

Frequently asked

Straight answers, without marketing language.

What is IPC?

The International Photographers Council (IPC) is an independent recognition body that evaluates photographic work against defined standards. Recognition is selective, limited, and may be withheld.

Is IPC a paid membership?

No. IPC is not a membership organization, subscription, or club.

Does IPC guarantee awards?

No. Recognition is earned and may be withheld if standards are not met.

Is IPC affiliated with any country, brand, or commercial network?

No. IPC is independent and operates without brand or geographic affiliation.

Who can submit? Is IPC youth-only?

IPC is open to photographers of all ages and experience levels. The evaluation is based on the work alone.

How do submissions work?

Submissions are collected during an official cycle. Applicants submit a short body of work/portfolio, then IPC reviews it against standards. Once submissions officially open, the site will provide the submission method and required fields.

How many images can I submit?

This will be announced when submissions open. IPC intends to require a small, curated selection rather than a high-volume upload. Quality matters more than quantity.

What categories does IPC accept (portraits, street, automotive, etc.)?

IPC evaluates photographic quality and authorship across genres. The primary requirement is coherence and strength of the submitted body of work.

What file types or link formats are accepted?

This will be specified in the submission instructions. IPC will typically accept either a curated portfolio link or a structured set of image files, depending on the cycle’s submission method.

What are the recognition levels (Merit / Distinction / Excellence)?

Merit recognizes strong execution and clear photographic competence.
Distinction recognizes a coherent voice, consistency, and authorship across a body of work.
Excellence is the highest recognition—reserved for exceptional originality and mastery, and is extremely limited.

What does “limited recognition” mean?

IPC may choose to issue fewer awards—or none—if submissions do not meet the standard. The institution is defined by restraint, not volume.

Does social media influence results?

No. Follower counts, likes, and platform popularity are not considered.

Are edited photos allowed? What about AI?

Standard photographic editing is expected (exposure, contrast, color, crop). IPC prioritizes authorship and integrity. Specific rules on generative AI / heavy composites will be published when submissions open.

Is there a submission fee?

This will be published if/when submissions open. IPC is not designed as a pay-to-win recognition system.

How do I verify an IPC certificate?

Use the Certificate Verification page. Enter the certificate number exactly as shown (e.g., IPC-26-M-001). If valid, the official certificate details will display.

What does “REVOKED” mean?

A certificate may be revoked in exceptional cases (for example: confirmed fraud, misrepresentation, or violation of core integrity rules). Revoked certificates should not be presented as valid recognition.

I received a certificate number but it doesn’t show as valid.

Confirm the certificate number is correct (spacing/hyphens) and try again. If it still doesn’t verify, contact IPC through the official channel listed on the Contact page.

How can I contact IPC?

IPC communication is handled through official contact methods only. See Contact. IPC does not conduct official correspondence via social media DMs.

Reminder:
IPC is merit-based and selective. If standards are not met, recognition may be withheld regardless of submission volume.
